Antipasti is the traditional starter of an Italian meal.
The use of having an “appetizer” to stimulate the appetite before a meal has a long tradition in Italy and goes back to the ancient Romans.
A traditional antipasti platter would include a combination of cured meats, cheeses, olives and vegetables in oil, vinegar or pickled, accompanied by nice and tasty handmade bread.
Bruschetta is a slice of grilled bread topped with tomatoes, olive oil and salt.
Variations may include toppings of tomato, vegetables, beans, cured meat, or cheese.
Bruschetta is usually served as a snack or appetizer.
A salad is a popular plate in the Mediterranean Diet made with a wide variety of small pieces of vegetables, fruits, cheese, cooked meat, eggs and grains, which may be mixed with a sauce or salad dressing.
Salads may be served at any point during a meal, such as appetizer salads, light salads to stimulate the appetite as the first course of the meal, side salads, to accompany the main course as a side dish and main course salads, usually containing a portion of heartier fare, such as chicken breast or slices of beef.
